FeedbackFruits Peer Review

FeedbackFruits is an easy way to organize and implement peer feedback assignments into your course through the Nestor environment. The advantages of FeedbackFruits (FbF) peer review are that it is easy to set up yourself and allows students to hand in different forms of products such as written text, video’s, audio, web pages etc.

Reviewing each other's work is something which greatly benefits student learning, and this can be done digitally through the FeedbackFruits peer review tool.  If you’re not familiar with the concept, peer feedback is described as students taking an active role in giving feedback on each other’s projects, group skills, presentations, or other assignments. For more information on the rationale behind using peer feedback in your course, please visit our page on Peer Feedback

Step 1: Make sure FeedbackFruits is enabled in your Nestor Course. For this go to Customization - Tool Availability and select the FeedbackFruits option of your choice (when available in Nestor).

Step 2: In the content area go to Build Content and select Feedbackfruits Peer Feedback. Give it a title and select Enable Evaluation if you wish for scores from FeedbackFruits to be sent to the Grade Center, and finally hit enter. This will create a link which will take you or your students to the online FBF environment. Once the link is created click on it to enter the online environment.

Step 3: Once you are in the online environment you will have the option to either watch an instruction video or “get started”. If you are new to FBF then it might be good to watch the video. Once you are ready click get started.

Step 4: From here on the steps are fairly straightforward. At the top of the screen you can give the assignment a title. Next you should be able to see steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 (in purple circles) on your screen:

  1. Create instructions: write instructions for the students. Select one of three review modes namely individual, group, and individual group. Explanation on what each one exactly is will be presented to you after clicking on it (see image below).

  2. Hand in: Give instructions about the format of the assignment. Next to this you can select a deadline for the assignment and indicate if late submissions are allowed.

  3. Set up review: Describe what criteria to give feedback on, and the required amount of comments. You could also set a deadline and how many students to check.

  4. Read feedback: This is the final step and here you can select a deadline for when the students should read their feedback. After this you can publish the assignment by clicking save

More information

When it comes to giving peer feedback on written documents, FeedbackFruits peer review is an alternative for Peerceptiv. The set-up of Feedbackfruits is easier for teachers without external support. However, Peerceptiv may however provide different features that are more applicable to your teaching situation. For other types of products, such as video, Pitch2Peer is another alternative.
