FeedbackFruits Peer Review
Assignment review enables teachers to guide students by giving them inline feedback on their work. The primary use of this would be to give clear comments/feedback on reports. As a teacher, you will be able to highlight parts of the text and attach comments. The tool allows students to write a reflection on the reviews they get from their teacher on their assignment which helps students better understand their improvement points.
For good learning and instruction, optimal information processing is very important. This involves knowing how to follow-up to the learning experience: the “feed-back, feed-forward, assessment for learning” (Kirschner & Hendrick, 2020).
Effective feedback answers three major questions asked by a teacher and/or by a student:
Feed-up: Where am I going (What are the goals?)
Feedback: How am I going (The progress being made towards the goal)
Feed-forward: Where to next? (What activities must be done to make better progress?)
With these principles of good teaching in mind, FeedbackFruits (FbF) Assignment Review is a good example of a technological tool that can align well with effective pedagogy.
First, when setting up this assignment, you can select the type of assignment that students are asked to hand-in--either individual or group.
Second, you can set different types of criteria for assessment with the use of rubrics, scales or comment criteria.
Third, grade the product and provide feedback on the performance of the students, or a combination of both. You can configure grading settings easily within the tool and create inline feedback in the document itself.
Fourth, FbF provides you insights on the progress of your students’ activity within the tool and allows you to monitor your students' progress on the tool's dashboard.
Step 1: In Nestor’s “content area” go to build content and select Feedback fruits Assignment feedback. Give it a title and hit enter. This will create a link which will take you or your students to the online FbF environment. Once the link is created, click on it to enter the online environment.
Step 2: Once you are in the online environment you will have the option to either watch an instruction video or “get started”. If you are new to FBF then it might be good to watch the video. Once you are ready click get started.
Step 3: From here on the steps are fairly straight forward. At the top of the screen you can give the assignment a title. Next you should be able to see steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 (in purple circles) on your screen:

Hand in: Give instruction about the format of the assignment. Next to this you can select a deadline for the assignment and indicate if late submissions are allowed.
Set up review: Describe what criteria to review on, and the required amount of comments. Set a deadline and how many students to review.
Read feedback: This is the final step where you can select a deadline for when the students should read their feedback. After this you can publish the assignment by clicking save.
