 How do I enrol students to my course?

How do I enrol students to my course?

Open your Nestor course and navigate to Course Management (bottom left of your screen)> Users and Groups > Users. Click on Enroll Users. You can then enroll users by either username (sxxxxxxx or pxxxxxxx, for example), email, first name or last name. Click Go to view the results that match the entered search criteria.

If an account unexpectedly does not show up in the search results, it is most likely already enrolled in the course. You can check this by navigating to Course Management (bottom left of your screen)> Users and Groups > Users and searching for the account in question.

The error ''Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided.'' means that you have entered an incorrect password. If you forgot your password and have an sxxxxxxx or pxxxxxxx account, you can go to diy.rug.nl to reset your password.

 Where can I find the schedule for my course?

Where can I find the schedule for my course?

The Schedule Generator (found at http://rooster.rug.nl) is the place where you can view your schedule if you cannot use the My Personal Timetable module on Nestor. This could be the case if you are an exchange student or if you are instructor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Using the Schedule Generator you can combine schedules for different courses and programmes quickly and easily. You can then import the schedule you created into your Google Calendar or Outlook Agenda, to keep up-to-date with the latest changes.

This new version of the Schedule Generator offers a cleaner overview of your schedule and improved mobile compatibility.

How do I import/export grades from/to Excel?

Grades should only be published to the student themselves. In compliance with the EU wide AVG (data protection and privay) law, it is not allowed to publish lists of studentnumbers and corresponding grades. Publishing such lists is regarded as an official data leak.

The manual below describes how you can upload grades from an Excel file to the Grade Center in Nestor, or to download grades from the Grade Center.

Where can I find the Blackboard Collaborate recording(s)?

Open your Nestor course and navigate to Course Management (bottom left of your screen) > Blackboard Collaborate Ultra > click on the hamburger menu > click on Recordings.

By default, all recordings from the past month are shown. If you want to view older recordings, click Filter by > Recordings In A Range in the top right and enter a time range in which the recording you want to view transpired.

How do I put video(s) in my Nestor course?

Uploading video files directly to the course would quickly take up all available storage space of your course. Therefore, the use of Presentations2Go (P2Go) is recommended. With P2Go, video files are stored on a central server. P2Go ensures that the files are easily accessible and protected from accidental deletion.

To upload videos to P2Go, open your Nestor course and navigate to Course Management > Course Tools > Video upload (P2Go).

All instructors at the University of Groningen have access to premium Poll Everywhere accounts through our university-wide subscription. To activate your account, go to https://www.polleverywhere.com/login  and click Log In at the top right side of the page, Type in your username@rug.nl email address, then click next. On the next screen, select, Login with University of Groningen.

How do I request a livestream?

The steps to set up a livestream are mostly identical to the steps for lecture recordings. Please follow all steps on this page about automatic lecture recordings except the following:

Ask the scheduler to set up a livestream instead of a recording. As mentioned earlier, every livestream will automatically be recorded as well, and can be published afterwards using a P2Go List or P2Go Item. Please see the instructions on the automatic lecture recording page for more details on publishing a recording.

You will have to add P2Go Channel to your course before the lecture starts. The instructions for adding a P2Go Channel to your course can be found on this page.

If you wish to schedule a livestream, you will have to contact the scheduler of your faculty. Their contact information may be found on the following page: https://www.rug.nl/education/schedules/contacts.

How do I make my course (in)visible to students?

An entire course could be set (in)visible for students using the following steps:

  1. In your course menu, navigate to Course Management → Customization → Properties.

  2. Here, the course could be set visible or invisible (available or unavailable, respectively) for students.

    On the same page (Properties), the course could be made invisible using certain time slots. This could be done under the subject duration. Here, three different options are available as shown in the figure below. The visibility of the course will adapt to the duration.

When I upload a file to my course I get the following error: 'Adding the selected content to the specified folder causes the folder to exceed its quota', what now?

The error “Adding the selected content to the specified folder causes the folder to exceed its quota” occurs when a course exceeds its file storage limits. When this is the case, often old course content from previous years is still present in the content collection of this year’s course. In order to confirm whether this is the case, go to the content collection and check to see if there are any obsolete files and delete these to free up space. You can find the content collection in the course menu on the left-hand side, by expanding ‘Content Collection’ and clicking on the course code (see also the screenshot below).

Another common cause of this issue is the presence of large video files in the course’s content collection. It is recommended to upload course videos using Presentations2Go (P2Go) as this does not count against any course storage limits. If you wish to learn more about uploading course videos using P2Go, please follow this guide.

If you still run into issues while uploading content, even after trying the aforementioned options, please contact Nestorsupport with the request to increase the quota for your course.
