When do we get access to Brightspace?
Everyone will get access to Brightspace in March 2022. You will also have your own sandbox environment in which you can get familiar with Brightspace.
I cannot log in on Brightspace. What should I do?
How do I change the password for my Brightspace account?
On Account.rug.nl, you can change the password for sxxxxxxx or pxxxxxxx accounts, by clicking on ‘Forgotten Password’.
How will the information that is currently on 'Study info' be incorporated in Brightspace?
The 'Study Info' tab will stay and thus all information will be available in Brightspace.
What kind of language packages are used in Brightspace?
Currently, Dutch and English are available in Brightspace. We are exploring options to see whether it is possible to include more language packages.
The RUG does not support a Brightspace App.
Which tools will be embedded in Brightspace?
On this page, you can find a list of tools that have thus far been implemented in Brightspace. New tools will also be shown on this page.
How can I import my schedule to Google Calendar/iCloud?
The Timetable module is not yet available in Brightspace. When this is the case, the answer to this question will be updated.
How do I enroll students to my course?
In the navigation bar of your course go to Tools > Class Members.
Click on Add Participants, a drop-down menu will appear. Select Add Existing Users in this drop-down menu.
To search for the specific user, you need to type one of the following options in the search bar:
For Search Type you can select contains, starts with or exact match. We recommend to select contains.
Scroll down for your results. Select the desired users and assign them their specific role.
When you have selected the desired user(s), click on Enroll Selected Users.
To complete the procedure, click on Done
Where can I find the schedule for my course?
On http://rooster.rug.nl you can check all the events that are happening at the RUG. You can search for courses, programmes, groups, locations and specific buildings.
The Timetable module is not yet available in Brightspace.
You can add important dates for your course to the Calendar in Brightspace. Events created in the Calendar are publicly viewable to the whole course. Calendar can display organization wide events, course specific events, and even personal tasks.
How to get to the calendar
In the navigation bar go to Course Tools > All Course Tools > Calendar.
There is also a Widget of the calendar on your Course home page. Click on the Arrow > Go to Calendar.
How do I make my course (in)visible/ active to students?
In the course Navbar go to Tools → Course Properties
Scroll down to the Active box. Check the box to make the course active, uncheck to hide it from students.
Does Brightspace provide something similar to 'Adaptive Release' in Blackboard?
Yes. In Brightspace, you have ‘Release Conditions' and this is quite similar to the used 'Adaptive Release' in Blackboard. More information on using 'Adaptive Release’ in Brightspace can be found on this page.
What are the benefits of the course template in Brightspace?
Offers students a clear and coherent structure of their courses and uses the same language/typology throughout the whole university; that makes it easier to navigate and find learning materials
It organizes the course over time; students know per week what is expected of them. It also helps teachers and students to analyze their progress throughout the course
It stimulates teachers to use effective learning strategies
It enables automation of some of the working process, which reduces some of the workload of teachers
Will Blackboard Collaborate also be redesigned?
For now, Blackboard Collaborate is integrated in the Brightspace environment. We are currently in the process of deciding whether we will continue to use Blackboard Collaborate in Brightspace.
Will P2Go be available in Brightspace?
No, the current video platform will be replaced by Kaltura. More information on Kaltura can be found on this page.
How do I manage grades in Brightspace?
Brightspace offers a Gradebook (somewhat similar to the Grade Center in Blackboard). For more information, you can view this page.
Will digital exams also be done in Brightspace?
This is still unclear, we are currently working out whether using this internal environment is sufficient.
