Introduction

The educational catalogue Ocasys shows information on all courses offered by the University of Groningen, such as course descriptions, lecturers involved, the period a course can be taken in and the literature used. Ocasys can be accessed by navigating to https://www.rug.nl/ocasys/.

Can I follow every course shown on Ocasys?

Not every student is eligible to follow every course shown on Ocasys. If you are wondering if you are allowed to follow the course, please consult the entry requirements listed on the course’s Ocasys page and/or contact the study coordinator or student support desk of the faculty the course belongs to


Overview and homepage

The homepage of Ocasys, which can be accessed at rug.nl/ocasys, is shown below. The main features are the search options (1), an academic year toggle (2) and a language setting (3).

Is the course information show on Ocasys binding or not?

Each degree programme, or cluster of degree programmes, has a set of Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) [Onderwijs en Examenregeling (OER) in Dutch]. This is a legal document that defines the most important rules and regulations and the curriculum of the degree programme. The TER for your faculty will tell you if the information displayed on Ocasys is binding or not!


How to find your courses/programme

If you wish to view the information of a course, click ‘search courses’ on the homepage. You will be presented with the search menu shown below, where you can search by course name or course code.

Make sure you are searching in the correct year when looking up course information, as course information might change between years! You can change the academic year from which courses are shown in the top right of Ocasys. By default, the current academic year is selected.

If you wish to view a programme, click ‘search programmes’ on the homepage. You will be presented with the following search menu:
